Guardian Cable Horizontal Lifeline Fall Arrest System
Problem: This sawmill needed a fall protection system for workers accessing equipment to perform scheduled machine maintenance.
Solution: EFP designed and installed numerous Guardian cable horizontal lifeline systems in multiple sawmill facilities. These systems were placed strategically where maintenance workers are accessing equipment to make repairs and adjustments. The Guardian SRLs are attached to the cable lifeline trolley that follows the workers giving them full range of motion to perform their work. This also keeps the SRL on a vertical plane to decrease free fall distance and swing fall. These cable systems are mounted with the Guardian CB-12 anchors and Checkline II Inline Dampers. The Inline Damper is used as an energy reducing component in the system that reduces forces by 40%. It is fitted at the end [with a Loadcell at the other end] and secured to the cable using an approved crimper. This Checkline II loadcell is mounted to a bolt on D-ring. The Loadcell has a visual indicator that ensures the system is under the correct loading or a warning if that load has been exceeded, and also allows for thermal expansion and contraction of the structure that may affect the system tension. The maintenance workers are tied off using Guardian Halo SRLs that are connected the cable with the Checkline II Overhead Trolleys.
